How to Write Business Plans: Make Your Mistakes

Author: Eric Powers

One of the greatest benefits of a business plan is the opportunity it presents for you to make key mistakes on paper rather than in dollars and cents. The type of thorough research and strategy that a business plan requires for funders requires should also make it the type of internal planning document which will be a great tool for you to manage with going forward.

Here are a few of the potentially costly mistakes that a business plan can help avoid.

Haphazard Marketing

If you have not carefully chosen your customer target markets, you run the risk of marketing too broadly. If you are spending dollars on local TV ads to reach cable-watchers when you should really be targeting select groups or associations, you may be wasting money on ads that have little return for the business. Seeking wider awareness of your business may be useful if you need to achieve a much larger customer base to be successful, or if you have little competition within the vicinity. If you think through your customer niche more clearly on paper, you can be much more cost-effective in your pay.

Hiring at the Right Time

By planning through the schedule of the launch and early operations of your business, you should be able to time the hires you need to make. To do this, work back from when you need a fully trained employee to allow time for training, interviews, and job advertisement. Depending on the skill involved in the job and the availability of that type of employee in the labor market, you may need anything from a couple weeks to a few months of lead time for this process. Without this type of plan, you may hire employees too early, wasting money on excess capacity before you need it, or too late and deal with operational bottlenecks or lost opportunities in the meantime.

H-F-L-Team: Online Business Plans, Site Design And More

By Douglas Miller

Your Hundred-Fold-Life may begin with a simple clean idea, now it needs a plan to see that idea come to life.

Every new online business starts with a plan. This includes an overall objective, secondary objectives, a Mission Statement, a Strategy, an Identity, a Procedural Policy and an inventory of merchandise and/or services rendered. An online business is no different. As a matter of fact, the site itself is actually the last stage of establishing an online business. The main conception of said business always comes first.

As said, any and every business venture begins with a single idea, whether simple or complex, although the best ideas are the simple ones. Regardless of the type of business, this idea must be cogent, intelligent, realistic and comprehensible. Take for example an online business dealing with automotive parts. Since there are many automotive businesses around, even online, a new one should have a twist that the others don’t have. A twist, or angle, is that particular uniqueness that allows a particular venture to stand out among the rest. In this case, say, the new online business will feature rebuilt and enhanced 8-track players. These innovations existed during the 1970s and are no longer sold, which makes this twist special in that it will appeal to those who seek old music devices, such as antique dealers or collectors or those who wish to modify their automobiles with a style of the nostalgic, such as in memory of the 1970s. The main idea would be to cater to this audience. Here is the premise of the basic idea, along with its rationale. It also clarifies the business’ identity, which is tied in with its particular angle, that being 8-track player renovations.

Now, for the secondary objectives. What are they? Like every other business, the business wants to thrive and gain a profit, not to mention become well known and develop an association with other business owners in the same field or related fields so that affiliate networking and extended advertising may continue and grow. These are the secondary objectives, which are not unique but still just as equally important as the primary one. The secondary objectives tie businesses together so they all become components in a greater social and economic community.

The Mission Statement establishes a business’ particular directive; that is, what does the business intended on doing throughout its process in relation to others including the involvement of the public. This alludes to a sense of integrity and an oath to which it’s bound and that which drives the business in a professional manner. Mission statements are usually detailed and specific.

As for strategies, these denote how a business will proceed to conduct its affair and how it relates to other professionals and the public. These include advertising, marketing, procedural policies, inventory for merchandise and/or services.

When all these are set down, the site development may begin, but not before. After all, the site itself serves to represent the business venture and will include all of this information. Think about building a house. You need the blueprints before you start to build it. How can a site be created if one doesn’t yet know why it is to be created?

Your Hundred-Fold-Life is the same you will need to have a plan of attack to achieve your goals.

Professional Business Plans:

The Need For Professional Business Plans

By Ken Austin

You know you need a business plan. You probably realize that it is one of the best ways to get your business up and running. No matter what your business is, a business plan can help to focus its direction while providing the information you need to get moving. The most important thing a business plan will do is to provide your financial backers with a reason to give you their approval. It will show them how you plan to work your business.

So, how will you know what to write in your business plan? Do you know the first thing about writing a business plan? It may seem like an overwhelming task to try to figure out what to write for your personal business plan. You may have attempted to take out a few books at the library or even asked a friend to help you. But, are you satisfied that your business plan will be successful? Remember, you only get one chance to WOW people, so the first business plan they see will be the one they remember. What if it’s just not good enough?

Okay, that’s enough worrying! It is time to act! Your first order of business is to decide what your business goals are. Once you have a basic idea of what you need, you can then do several things to determine what type of business plan you need as well as where to get it. One of the best things you can do when in need of a business plan is to hire a qualified, experienced business plan service.

Not only will you obtain the best professional business plan available, but you won’t have to struggle over the words yourself. Now, how much better can that be? Using sample business plans from their website, you can see just how well their products can fit your needs. Sample business plans can be a great way to visualize the finished product. Using a sample business plan as a guide, you can determine if the product will fit your needs and plans. If not, perhaps you can see what is missing in your point of view.

Having a professional business plan will make all the difference during that trip to the bank. The trip to see if you qualify for funding is enough to worry about. Having a well thought out, professional business plan can give you the comfort and security you will need.

The first impression you give the lender will be one of professionalism, attention to detail, and organization. That alone will help them realize that your business is worth the risk. What’s more is that there is just no real reason to not have a professional business plan. They are relatively inexpensive and pay for themselves when you secure that loan. Making a smart business choice begins with your business plan!
